Planting Seeds for a Better Kane County | Cherryl Strathmann

April 20, 2020

Cherryl Strathmann planting seeds kane county

Cherryl Strathmann needs your help. She purchased seed packets to give out while canvasing to promote her campaign for Kane County Board District 20…but that can’t happen until after the ‘stay at home’ order is lifted. She is looking for good homes that want seed in Elgin, IL.

We’ll let Cherryl explain it in her own words.

So… I thought I would be out knocking on doors and passing out seed packets, asking for you to vote for me for Kane County Board in the November election. Going door to door is on hold for right now as we shelter in place. But ! It’s Spring and planting time, and I have seeds. I want to get them out to folks who want some. I have limited varieties, but I’ll share whatever I can. Please send me a PM on Cherryl Strathmann for Kane County Board Facebook page. Let me know what  seeds you are interested in, and if I have them, they are yours! We will set up a delivery date, and get them to you.

Never gardened before? Don’t have a garden plot? I am a Master Gardner through University of Illinois Extension. I can help you with some simple solutions. If you have a flower pot, there are things you can grow to provide fresh food for your family.

So help me out, please. Let me share an abundance of seeds with you. We are in this together, and together we can be planting seeds for a better Kane County.

Do you have petitions to file?

On Sunday, Nov. 24th, the Kane County Democrats will help you finalize and properly assemble your petition packet and get it ready for filing, which starts on Nov. 25, and ends Dec. 2nd.  We’ll have the proper two-prong fasteners available, be you a PCP with just a few pages, or a county-wide candidate with a 100+ packet.

The event will happen from 10-3 at the Dems office, 473 Dunham Rd, St. Charles.  And, if you don’t think you’ll have time to file your forms with the County Clerk, we’ll do that for you too!

Precinct Committee People

September 20, 2019

knock knock

Its election time again!

Time to get out in our precincts and gather the signatures needed to be placed on the ballot to become (or remain) elected Precinct Committee People (PCs).  In order to make your work easier, I’ve partially filled out the petition available for download on this page with the information for the Elgin Township that is common for everyone.  Please complete your personal information where needed with name address and zip code.

Download the Elgin Precinct Committee Person Petition

Fill in your info and get your signatures. Return to Elgin Dems before 11/22/2019.

While you only need ten signatures to get on the ballot, it is always recommended to get two or three times the signatures required. This applies for any position in government because there is always a chance that someone will contest a batch of petitions. It is critical that even if some signatures or pages get rejected, the candidate will still have more than the required amount to be on the ballot.

When you walk your precinct getting your own signatures, feel free to bring along petitions for one or two of your favorite candidates who are also running. Higher offices need greater amounts of signatures. An extra ten or twenty signatures gathered from each of us can lift a lot of effort from our officials so they can concentrate on what’s important, running our government with the democratic ideals that benefit everybody.

Remember that all petitions need to be notarized.  During election season, we often have notaries at our monthly meetings who are ready to notarize your petitions. So please feel free to bring in your petitions when you come to our next meeting. As an added bonus, if everyone brings their signed PC petitions in to us, we can file them all at the same time.  This adds another level of auditing for ETD and the county.

I hear a few of you saying “This sounds like a lot of work. Why would anyone want to be an Elected Precinct Committee Person?” As an elected PC you have a vote in who runs the Elgin Township Democrats as well as who is in charge of the Kane County Democrats. Your vote is also weighted based on how many active voters are in your precinct. So your voice is strong as you increase voter turnout in your precinct. Remember, these are your neighbors and you can help be their voice in government.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at 630-890-3460. If you’ve already notarized for petitions you can drop them at 210 Wing Park Blvd.

Let’s all get elected and fill our precincts with active voters.

Thank you!

Carl Strathmann
Elgin Township Democrats Chairman

Canvassing for Local Elgin Candidates

February 25, 2019

knock knock

Call to action for all Democrats

For too many years leadership focused on Federal Elections. Meanwhile the GOP quietly concentrated on local elections, winning city council and school boards positions with right wing individuals.

Now is the time to help concerned individuals with democratic values get elected or reelected to local offices. For list of candidates Elgin Township Democrats endorsed go to our web page Elgindems.org.

Grassroot canvassing for local candidates will be every Saturday, up until election day, starting at 10 AM. You can pick up palm cards or yard signs at 164 Division St Suite 505-506.

They need your help! If you can spare an hour or two each Saturday they will win.

If you have any questions you can contact Janice Bennett at 847-772-4463.
